FUNCTION OF BEAUTY: A REVIEW

Back when my hair was actually LONG, I could never find a shampoo & conditioner combo that actually made my hair look and feel fresh. Since I only wash my hair every other day, it became a problem when my hair got super oily by my scalp, making it necessary for me to rewash it the next day (especially if I decided to put the effort into actually styling it).

Bottom line? My current methods weren't working.

So when my favorite YouTuber (Zoe Sugg, obvs) mentioned this brand in one of her videos and talked about how incredible it was, I was immediately intrigued.

WHAT IS IT?

Function of Beauty is a brand dedicated to making it easier for people to take care of all of their hair care needs without the hassle. This brand is 100% customizable (from the focus areas to the SMELL, people!) and is actually pretty good at giving you EXACTLY what you want for the same price as your salon brand shampoos & conditioners (Wella, Paul Mitchell, etc.).

HOW DOES IT WORK?

When you go to the company's website, it'll ask you to take a hair quiz. This quiz is designed to help formulate your products so that they benefit you as best as possible, so definitely try to answer all of the questions as closely as you possibly can. You'll be asked about your hair type/structure/scalp moisture, your hair goals, which scent you want AND how strong you want it, and what color you want your products to be. Now, I've only had one delivery from this brand, but I opted for the peach scent and MAN, is it INCREDIBLE! Definitely recommend.

WHO SHOULD TRY THIS BRAND?

If you're one of those people who have tried every drugstore brand of shampoo & conditioner (or even salon brands) and STILL can't find the one that truly gives you the results that you're looking for, then this brand is for you. You're given a total of five hair concerns that you can choose for your set, all of which are (as far as I can tell) taken care of perfectly after just the first WASH. Oily scalp? They've got you covered. Lack of volume? Yup. Weak strands? THEY'VE GOT YOU. Your hair shouldn't be hard to take care of, and this brand makes it so that it's not.

And they send you stickers to put on your bottles, so how can you NOT buy these?

WHAT IS THE PRICE POINT FOR THIS BRAND?

Like I said before, this brand is priced similarly to the more high-end salon brands such as Wella, Paul Mitchell, etc. That being said, for a set of 8-ounce bottles (both shampoo & conditioner), you'll be paying $39. For me, this wasn't a problem, especially since I received my first order in March 2019 and have barely made a dent in it (seeing as my hair is short and requires very little product), so it was worth paying upwards of $30 since I knew it would last me a good while.

The 8-ounce bottles would be perfect if you have less hair, as you'll need less product, thus purchasing 16-ounce bottles right off the bat, especially if you're not 100% certain if you'll like the products (which is highly unlikely, btw. But you never know) is really unnecessary. However, if you have longer hair or prefer using more product when showering (because some people like a bunch of suds in their hair), you can certainly go for the set of 16-ounce bottles (again, both shampoo & conditioner) for $49. But it's really your preference. Honestly, whichever size you go for, based on how much hair you have, it should last you a long time, so the price point isn't that bad when you really think about it.

SUMMARY

This brand is probably the best brand I have used on my hair. It has truly taken care of every single hair concern of mine and made my hair smell AMAZING. The price may put some people off, but when you think about how long this stuff actually lasts, you'll want to buy it. Besides, how can you say no to fully customizable hair care AND stickers?! That's right: you can't.
