3 MONTH PIXIE GROWTH UPDATE

I have officially been growing out my pixie for THREE WHOLE MONTHS! I know! How crazy is that? Anyway, I thought I'd share the products I've been using. how I've been styling it, etc. for any of you who are either going through this process yourself or are thinking about getting a pixie cut and wondering how you'll grow it out when the time comes. Either way, I've taken pictures every month to document my growth and I've taken note of all of the products I've been using, so lets get into it, shall we?
NOVEMBER 2019

Biggest Observations: Was still easy to style, didn't fall in my face, etc.
Month #1 of growing out my hair, I was still able to style it how I had been before (a deep part with the front kind of "spiked" up). At this point, I was still using my Function of Beauty shampoo and conditioner (which I'll probably get in a different formula once my hair is longer, only because I want to change my hair goals). I've also published another post alongside this one explaining what Function of Beauty is, how it works, etc. just in case you're interested. You can find it here.
In simplest terms, Function of Beauty is a hair care brand that allows you to customize your products based on your hair type, hair goals, etc. They even let you customize the scent and the strength of the scent, which I thought was pretty amazing because I'm someone who likes hair products that you can smell on you all day. Anyway, I had been using this brand since May 2019 (shortly after I got my pixie) to help with my oily roots and dry skin on my scalp. And it worked wonders, but when I decided to start growing out my pixie, I decided to switch to a different shampoo.

Around October or November, I swapped my FOB shampoo for the Anti-Breakage + Keratin Oil Shampoo by OGX. Since my special formula for my FOB hair care products didn't include anything for strengthening or lengthening my hair, I decided to use something that would hopefully help to seal those split ends and make my hair stronger and healthier overall so that I wouldn't have to get it cut as often. So far, I haven't noticed any split ends. So we're doing good!
DECEMBER 2019

Biggest Observations: Top part started to lay down more, making it more difficult to style without products
As you can see in the picture above, the hair on the side of my head had grown significantly longer in a little over a month. At this point, I was still using the OGX shampoo, but I was still using my FOB conditioner (mainly because I didn't have any other conditioner), just because I still wanted the peachy scent that I had selected when I bought it. That and if it could help keep the oil out of my roots, I'd be eternally grateful.
Other things that I was doing around this time was brushing it more (essential for distributing those oils from your scalp to the rest of your hair to keep those oils throughout all of your hair, making your hair healthier), finishing my showers cold (I know, it sounds awful, but I've definitely noticed a difference in how much healthier my hair looks and feels from doing this), and trying to avoid scrunching my hair up with my towel after my shower (I basically just squeeze out any excess water in the shower and run the towel over my head to avoid any excessive amounts of breakage. Gotta keep that hair healthy if you want it to grow!).
(Note: I use a Wet Brush, which is essentially just more gentle on your hair when it's wet to prevent breakage, which you're more likely to have if you use a regular brush straight out of the shower. You're supposed to comb your hair after the shower rather than brush it, but I hate combs, so I just use my Wet Brush and it doesn't seem to cause any problems.)
JANUARY 2020

Biggest Observations: Slowly getting more difficult to manage, does its own thing
Nothing much to say about this month. I was still using the OGX shampoo and FOB conditioner, but I tried to go longer in between washes to allow my natural oils to have time to get through my hair. Before, I was basically washing my hair every morning because when you have short hair, it's more likely to get all crazy when you're asleep (especially if you toss and turn like I do).

The only thing different about this month was that I started experimenting with hair clips toward the end of the month. Mainly because my hair was getting so long that just pushing it up in the front isn't enough, especially when I don't use any products to hold it in place. Which is another thing that I've avoided (using hair products) because they can clog the pores in your scalp if not washed out properly and slow down hair growth. The more you know :)
FEBRUARY 2020

Biggest Observations: Has started to lay much flatter, no hope for styling without products at this point, best bet is to clip hair back away from face with hair clips
Ah, the 3 month mark! How exciting! Anyway, this is the month where things got REALLY exciting because I decided to try something new.
L'Oreal Paris released a new hair care line called Elvive Dream Lengths (you can find the shampoo here and the conditioner here) and I couldn't help but buy it. Mainly because it contains castor oil and vitamins, both of which are said to help aid in hair growth. I noticed that a lot of people who reviewed these products complained about the smell being too strong, but honestly, it doesn't bother me that much. Probably because I like strong shampoo smells. That and the shampoo and conditioner don't make my hair feel or look overly greasy right after washing, which was a big concern for me because I've always dealt with oily roots. So naturally, I'm in love with this line! Oh, and the conditioner is detangling, so there's another way that it helps prevent breakage. Honestly, my brush just glides through my hair with these products, they're THAT good.

I plan on buying the leave-in conditioner that comes with this line once my hair gets a little longer, but I can't wait to see if this helps make a difference in how fast my hair grows. I'm hoping that it at least grows down close to my shoulders before the year is out. Fingers crossed this line helps!
